Ambrose Bierce- Realism: contrast
- Wants to show life accurately and simply without adding in unnecessary things
- Gives details that matter in life and what usually happens in most cases
Washington Irving- Romantic: Contrast
- Shows you what you want to see and what life would be like if perfect
- Gives you an idea of what your life would be like if you could dream part of it out
- He likes to make points using what's available and real
Washington Irving-Compare:
- Also makes points but sometimes adds unnecessary items or thoughts
The importance of each stories are that they have a real life sort of feeling. I don't like books where everything isn't real even in fiction books, and when Farquhar was swimming away and the soldiers and guards couldn't hit him I didn't like that, although he was dreaming or hallucinating so ill give that to Ambrose. I liked this short story better than Legend of Sleepy Hollow because of the ending and details were much more realistic, which all falls back to the writers style.
hmm, that is interesting
